Prize-winning: Products, service and responsibility

Our innovation Hall of Fame

We have received a number of awards for our ground-breaking wear protection technology and innovative tungsten carbide tool solutions. Our customers have been won over by our successful partnerships and intelligent environmental practices. Take a look at our track record from recent years.

  • On an equal footing with our partner Schaeffler

In 2014 CERATIZIT was presented with the "Global Cooperation Award" by long-standing client and cooperation partner Schaeffler. We have faced up to the global challenge of implementing our clients' requirements in a targeted fashion. Reliable and flexible cooperation has enabled us to greatly improve the quality of our products and services in China and, in turn, to contribute greatly towards quality assurance at Schaeffler. The key to our success? Communication on equal footing

  • New energy concept at our Mamer site

CERATIZIT recently carried out a major renovation of the heating, ventilation and cooling system at the Mamer site in Luxembourg: Using a modern energy concept we have optimized our energy usage, and new heat recovery plants will help us make future energy savings of up to 80 percent compared to the current usage. Farvest rewarded our efforts by presenting us with the 2014 Green Facility Management Award. This prize honors the most innovative environmental business practices.

  • Lightweight milling cutter for the manufacturing of crankshafts

With its new lightweight milling cutter CERATIZIT won the MM Award at the 2011 EMO trade show for the most innovative product in the "Tools" category. This super lightweight milling tool, used in the automotive industry to manufacture crankshafts, can be changed manually swiftly and easily, drastically reducing machine downtimes. CERATIZIT developed the prototype in just a few months together with machine tool manufacturer HELLER Maschinenfabrik GmbH.

  • CTP3220 carbide grade impresses with long service life

In 2010 the market research company Frost & Sullivan presented CERATIZIT with the "European Automotive Powertrain Customer Value Enhancement Award". This award honors business performance that creates measurable added value for the customer: In just two months we developed a solution for our client Opel Powertrain that would enable them to produce components from different materials using the same cutting tool. The new CTP3220 carbide grade with HyperCoat coating increases the service life of the tool by 40 percent and reduces manufacturing costs for the customer by up to 30 percent.

  • MaxiMill 273 – Indexable insert with 16 cutting edges

CERATIZIT also won the MM Award - issued by "MaschinenMarkt" trade journal back in 2010, fending off 80 other competitors with its MaxiMill 273 indexable insert to come top of the "Most innovative tool" category. The directly pressed indexable insert with 8-corner basic form has 16 fully-usable cutting edges and a unique double-positive clearance surface, ensuring low-cost milling at high feed rates. This innovative milling concept is particularly successful when used in the mass production of castings, e.g. when manufacturing engine blocks in the automotive industry.

  • High-performance cutting materials for the milling of titanium alloys

In 2009 CERATIZIT employee and mechanical engineering technician Oliver Baum was presented with the Recognition Award for Research and Study Projects for developing a new carbide grade. Together with his colleagues Wolfgang Wallgram, Josef Thurner, Peter Uttenthaler and Dr Uwe Schleinkofer, Oliver worked on a project entitled "Synthesis, structure, and behavior of a new CVD TiB2 coating with extraordinary properties for high performance applications".
This project saw the team develop a high-performance cutting material for the milling of titanium alloys. The fruit of their innovation is the advanced cutting material CTC5240 – currently the most efficient material of its kind on the global market.

  • MAC – the integrated tool cooling unit for dry machining

CERATIZIT won its very first MM Award in 2008, when its cutting-edge MAC cooling system topped the "Peripherals" category.  The innovative MaxiCool unit is directly integrated into the tool and routes cool air through the device to the insert and workpiece surface. This procedure allows aluminium wheels to be produced by dry machining alone. Removing cooling lubricants from the equation significantly reduces the machining costs for each wheel.

  • HyperCoatP – wear-resistant nanocoating

Together with his research team, our material scientist Dr Martin Kathrein developed an extremely hard, wear-resistant nanocoating. This new coating was lauded with the renowned Austrian NanoBUSINESS Award by an international expert jury in 2008.
This wear-resistant coating is marketed under the trade name HyperCoat-P. Its outstanding coating properties allow us to offer our customers tailor-made coating solutions, particularly for complex cutting operations. The innovative coating is produced through a process known as physical vapor deposition, or PVD.

  • Tough and wear-resistant – drilling concept with macroscopic gradient structure

In 2007 the EPMA (European Powder Metallurgy Association) presented CERATIZIT and our development partner Hilti an award for our TE-C3X drilling concept with macroscopic gradient structure. The solid carbide drilling head combines key material properties into one component: a super-solid drill tip for maximum wear resistance and sufficient toughness at the connector for an optimum welding connection.
