CERATIZIT - the history



Carbide has a new name. It is called CERATIZIT.
This is how the companies CERAMETAL and PLANSEE TIZIT announced their merger in November 2002.  Having common roots and cultural backgrounds and with a joint-venture for the development of carbide as a basis, the merger of the two companies proved to be the perfect match.

Below you can find the milestones in the development and growth of CERAMETAL and PLANSEE TIZIT:



1931: founded in Walferdange, Luxemburg

1938: production of tungsten carbide components

1962: production of tungsten carbide balls for ball point pens

1968: production of rolls for the warm rolling mill industry

1970: new 5,000m2  plant in Mamer, L

1973: start of overseas export

1977: creation of own R&D department

1979: subsidiary opened in Columbia, USA

1988: subsidiary opened in Detroit, USA

1988: production of ceramic components started

1989: powder manufacturing in Differdange plant, L

1993: CERAMETAL receives ISO9002 certification

1997: opening of sales office in Japan

1998: tungsten carbide production plant opened in China


1921: PLANSEE metalworking plat founded by Dr. Paul Schwarzkopf

1929: introduction of first TITANIT tungsten carbide

1931: first CERMET material patented

1952: first PLANSEE Seminar 'de re metallica'

1973: TIZIT Goldmaster: multilayer coating + patent

1982: introduction of TIZIT Starmaster (Al2O3-coated inserts)

1985: foundation of PLANSEE TIZIT

1987: PLANSEE TIZIT receives ISO9002 certification

1996. integration of Instrument AG (Bulgaria) in PLANSEE Group

2000: foundation of Aldap TIZIT (I)

2001: PLANSEE TIZIT receives ISO 9001 certification <more ...>

2002: E-TECHSTORE launched (platform for online buying)



 2002: Merger of CERAMETAL and PLANSEE TIZIT to form CERATIZIT S.A.
