Like an elegant eyrie in glass and dark red wood the new administration building of CERATIZIT sits enthroned on the craggy rocks above the Reutte-based parent company in Austria. Directly after the spacious entrance hall with its modern glass walls follows the bright new Tooling Academy. Member of the Board, Thierry Wolter is enthusiastic: “The Tooling Academy is the most recent scion of our strategy towards a successful symbiosis between classical research and customer-oriented problem solution."
Wolter is certain: “With the Tooling Academy CERATIZIT will set trends in three important fields. We use the Academy in the classical way as a laboratory for our new developments, and we will be able to implement even better training courses for our sales representatives than before, at the same machines applied by our customers. This guarantees practical competence. We are particularly proud of the possibility to solve the problems of our customers in our high-tech equipped Tooling Academy. When our customers are not able to deal with a specific material, we can analyse it here, then make a recommendation for the optimum tool or even manufacture the tool according to the customer’s needs.”
All production steps realistically simulated Dr. Uwe Schleinkofer, head of the cutting tool development department: “From now on we will focus more on high quality training courses and seminars for both our staff and our customers. At the new Tooling Academy we are able to realistically simulate all steps of the machining process, starting with tool presetting through quality control of the finished work pieces. Thus we can provide training for our customers and sales representatives dealing with the optimisation of processes and the machining of various materials, even exotic materials, in our spacious rooms. Of course the assessment of new products from the think tank of the cutting tool division’s development department will remain an important task. With the new Tooling Academy CERATIZIT continues to pursue its goal to become a benchmark for technical service in the selected cutting tool segments. For this purpose high quality machines with a large peripheral unit are available; they are operated by highly qualified cutting tool engineers.”
Develop new wear part solutions for our customers Dr. Rolf Kösters, head of the BU industrial wear parts: “In our business unit CERATIZIT is a researcher on behalf of the customers. Therefore the Tooling Academy in its function as a classical laboratory is decisive. Here we analyse the wear in tools which have been manufactured from our material, and of course also the work pieces manufactured with the test tools. For wear tests we need to have very realistic test conditions combined with precise measuring equipment and an exact documentation. “Only in this way it is possible to simulate problematic situations originating with our customers and to develop solutions,” says the head of the business unit.
