A century of experience is not only a reason for the Luxembourg-based CERATIZIT Group to reflect on the past. Forming part of the Plansee Group, the cutting tools and hard materials specialist can draw on in-depth experience going back a century as the basis for developing new solutions and services for cutting tools today and in the future. On the occasion of the anniversary festivities, His Royal Highness the Hereditary Grand Duke of Luxembourg and Luxembourg’s Minister of Economic Affairs, Franz Fayot, visited Mamer.
When Dr Paul Schwarzkopf founded Metallwerk Plansee GmbH on 24 June in 1921 he not only paved the way for the industrial manufacture of tungsten and molybdenum products – and thus for countless product developments of modern life. He also laid the foundations for the CERATIZIT Group resulting from the 2002 merger of Plansee Tizit and Luxemburg-based CERAMETAL.
Tooling the past, present & future
“We are proud of our 100 years of expertise, which after all amounts to a fruitful combination of pioneering thinking and innovative creativity,” says Thierry Wolter, Member of the Executive Board of the CERATIZIT Group. This experience forms the basis for the development of technologically ground-breaking and intelligent carbide products, which ensure that CERATIZIT’s customers can always face the challenges of the future with confidence.
Innovation pointing the way to sustainable industry
The possibilities in this context are manifold. “Additive manufacturing of cemented carbide, digital solutions, the use of artificial intelligence to optimise production processes and products, remote support solutions such as LiveTechPro and revolutionary production processes like High Dynamic Turning developed by CERATIZIT point the way to increased sustainability and efficiency,” explains Wolter. All this has been possible above all thanks to the efforts of the employees of the CERATIZIT Group. For 100 years, they have been largely responsible for CERATIZIT’s repeatedly proven ability to react quickly to changing customer requirements.
A symbolic tree representing a thousand trees
In order to commemorate the anniversary, the CERATIZIT Executive Board together with his Royal Highness the Hereditary Grand Duke, Minister of Economic Affairs Franz Fayot, the Mayor of Mamer, Gilles Roth, spokesman of the Plansee Group Board Karlheinz Wex and Andreas Olthoff, Managing Director of CERATIZIT Luxembourg, planted a maple tree at the entrance to the Mamer factory premises. “The tree is a symbol of our commitment to sustainability,” says Thierry Wolter. In addition the company supports ten projects throughout the world which are dedicated to issues such as erosion protection, reforestation after fires, biodiversity, fighting poverty, gender equality and climate stabilisation.
For over 100 years, CERATIZIT has been a pioneer in developing exceptional hard material solutions for machining and wear protection.
